a big kick in the face

I tune cars . And the 30,000 over I'm calling BS. The eec4 may demand more fuel but this won't make that big of a deal. Just for my curiosity do you have any air to fuel readings? Surging could be a lean or rich condition. If possible I would install an adjustable fuel pressure regulator and give it a global change by turning up the fuel pressure by 2-3 pounds and give that a try. I'm not too familiar with this particular combo but if it's EEC 4 I'm assuming it has a mass air meter? If not then its speed density and could simply need a tune. We tune EEC 4 a lot . It's relatively simple with moates software or you could buy a pms by Anderson motorsports of which I highly recommend as it adds a map sensor. Pm me with questions

Adding fuel pressure is a bandaid because it will add everywhere in your rpm range. By using a tune or tuner you can adjust the injector duty cycle at idle thus increasing the richness or vise versa.

If you had readings you could simply have a tune made , drop it on a chip and slide it in the PCM but personally I like the Anderson pms

If it has a mass air meter you may just be able to purchase a mafia mass air extender. With the turn of a knob you can change curve.

Something else to check would be the tps sensor (throttle position sensor ) it should read close to one volt at idle. They have slots in them to turn . Also did you check the inline spout connector from the distributor ?

Make sure it's plugged in all the way. You unplug this to adjust timing and then plug it back in. It's a grey colored piece of plastic. I've seen to many people adjust timing on these cars without unplugging it. This causes serious timing issues

No Mass Air and no O2 sensors, only TPS and a MAP sensor so it knows where is is, but has no way to adjust for anything but very minor changes. It's going lean, that's the only thing it can do with larger bores and the same amount of fuel. Boat and car tunes are different, a boat never coasts like a car it's always under a full load.

ok so sense my last post I have done another leak down test crank case pressure test and found a guy in cally that dose nothing but program ecms. very smart person so I overnighted him my ecm told him what motor what it was doing and everything I knew. I gave him a overnight slip for fed ex and it was at my dore yesterday put it on thismorning ad problems solved 80.00 and shipping and its fixed while on the hose taking it to the lake today. he remapped the entire ecm and also found a bad ground wire so to all the pcm guys out their you can program and fix these ecms. will post his web page and what it is doing after lake test this evening.

Post up that information. Just as an aside, hypothetically, if the ECU goes belly up on my GT40, does he still have the stock information from your ECU? Just looking for a solution to a problem I don't have yet, but may have some day.

ok so I water tested for three hours yesterday motor started right up and when it hit operating tem never skipped a beat no more shutting down and high surge idles at 650- 700. I think and don't hold me to this but I need some ideas when you idle for a long period of time say ten min back to the dock it will fluctuate now and oil and volts go down for like two seconds and fix itself 700-about 950. first time I noticed it I didn't think anything about it ten min later it did it again. talked to the ecm guy and he said it could be a sensor or bad ground. he aslo said if I cant find it to sent the ecm back but he was pretty sure it was fine. my question is where to start. any ideas..... and to answer someones question yes he did send the stock info back on a usb drive incase I ever needed it. I just need to put it in a safe place and not forget it

Glad to see you got it fixed. I knew a simple tune would fix it, but finding someone knowledgeable enough is sometimes the hard part. Post up who you used so others will have it for future issues please.

Would like to know more about what your ECM guy from California did to correct the problem. Especially if he was able to unlock the standard PCM EEC1V computer and then reprogram fuel and ignition tables. What is on the USB drive he sent you?

The IAC only really affects air intake when the throttle plates are closed, when wide open it would have minimal effect. Not convinced that a 30 thou over bore would cause a significant lean condition. The fuel and ignition tables PCM configured for the closed loop would have been somewhat conservative (rich) to allow for fuel quality and engine reliability.

But if this guy was able to reconfigure the fuel and ignition tables that will be of huge benefit to all GT40 owners as it would allow reprogramming of other replacement EEC1V ECM with the PCM setup. This is quite significant as replacement PCM GT40 ECM's are becoming very scarce.

Isn't the ECM just an A9L? If so you don't unlock it. It's simply a JL chip.

The PCM is closed loop no O2 sensor quite different to most other EEC1V setups out there. The A9L tune relates to a Mustang 5 litre 5 speed manual tune EEC1V. The fuel and ignition tables are setup for a boat where the engine is always under load unlike a car and it is a 5.8 litre engine. These tables are stored on the Eproms and you need to know where in the memory that the tables are located.

Unlocking is probably the wrong word deconstructing maybe a better term.
