    Steering question

Trying to tighten up the steering on my '04 SN 206. There seems to be no rudder response from about 11 o'clock to 1 o'clock when turning the wheel. I've removed the tilt mech., Helm assy, and checked where the rudder connects to the tiller in the rear of the boat. All seems tight and good.

Seems like the only two places where there might be an issue is with the aluminium casting that wheel mounts to and is then attached to the splined shaft for the the tilt mechanism or the gear engagement between the helm assembly and the steering cable.

The cable still works well and can be easily turned. Also, the gears show no signs of wear.

I'm new to working on boats as this is my first and only second season with it. Not sure if this delayed steering response is normal or not.

If this is normal and i'm just picky i'd like to know before I shell out the cash for new parts and go through the trouble of replacing the cable.

    Thanks for the help

Have someone stand behind the boat while on the trailer and see if the rudder is moving with in the range of 11 to 1. If the rudder lags that is one issue. If the rudder moves within the range you might like a loaded rudder. Many course skiers prefer this. The boat pulls to one side but is much quicker to your input.
