    Power Surges while skiing

Heres the scenario, New Boat to me 6 weeks ago. 2004 Ski Nautique LE 196 , 5.7L MPI 865 hours when delivered, 885 hours now. I ski 2 sets 4-6 passes 4 days a week ,34 MPH stopping after each pass, never any issues. When my ski partner skis, 32 MPH, no stopping, occasional after his 4th to 6th pass , engine will surge , with loss of power (not complete ) for a few seconds, Usually enough though to stop him from skiing. I replaced the fuel filter (possibly first time in 10 years ) it was dirty with black contaminants. Symptoms improved, but still persisted. I proceeded to clean flame arrestor and throttle intake (butterfly valve ) both dirty with what seemed to be belt dust. Symptoms still continue. Any thoughts on the next step on the plan of action ? Thanks !!!

Both the nautiques I ski behind do this after the turn. The perfect pass goes wacko and doesn't know what it is doing. Are you using perfect pass? If so before the turn around pull back on the throttle to get control of the boat. You'll know you have control when the top line of the display isn't highlighted. After the turn let the PP take over again.

I had a Malibu that would surge in the turn, only if I was 1/4 tank or less. Maybe similar issue. Just throwing it out there

My gut reaction is bad TPS (throttle position sensor), but I am guessing.

My 02 SANTE is doing the same thing. Except it occurs around 1800-2200 rpm with out PP turned on. Power just drops off, then comes back. It will do it three or four times and then quits. Doesn't do it above 2500 rpm or below 1800 or so. TPS?

I PMed you the most likely answer. Did you not receive it before getting a new fuel pump?
