Guys,
Put the boat in for the first time this year and made the mistake of rushing. The boat landing was back up with about 20 boats and I had 2 friends that were late to the boat ramp. We jumped into the boat and backed up from the dock. I knew the plug was in and checked all the valves but forgot to open the fresh water strainer valve. I have pictures below. I let the engine warm up checked all of my gauges and when we passed the no wake zone I gave it some throttle to plain out and within about 30 seconds I heard a loud bang and the smoke started poring out of the engine compartment. When I opened the engine bay and let the smoke dissipate I saw a part of the engine was laying beside it against the hull. We got towed in and when I got a closer look at it I'm pretty sure it the the muffler? I think what happened is when I didn't open the water inlet the pressure built up and blew the top of the exhaust? I know it wasn't getting any water because the clear water strainer still had pink antifreeze in it after the smoke cleared. You will also see some pictures of the exaust tube with a bunch of what looks like strings coming out of it. Is this the inside of the exhaust coming apart due to extreme heat or did a mouse or something make a home in my exhaust over the winter and cause the backup? I went to Nautique parts and I saw this muffler part # 3957 says its for MUFFLER SUPERSPORT/ SUPER AIR 1995-2007 AND ALL SV211'S
But I have a 2008 SANTE 230 with the 6.0 390HP PCM engine. it looks like the right muffler but I don't want to spend $515 on the wrong part. Also this looks like something that I can replace but I want to know if there is anything else I would need to purchase along with the muffler or if there is anything else I need to check right away for damage that could have been caused by this? I live in Richmond, VA and the closest Nautique mechanic/dealer is over 2 hours away. So if this is something I can do I will. Any help you guys can give or advice will be greatly appreciated.
