2000 SAN won't start after running dry

We had a great day last evening and wouldn't thought to be running that late so we ran out of gas... We always keep a 3 gallon bucket with petrol in the boat so we thought no problem. Filling the boat with the 3 gallons and start the boat. The boat immidiatly start and stay running. The last wakesurfer was ready to take the last session while running back the dock. She jumps in and we gave the boat some throttle and engine stops (so after running for 5 seconds or so). After that we couldn't start the boat anymore.
The starter would run, and the boat gets it sparks. But no fuel... What can be the problem or should be the first things to check? It's a GT-40 which ran perfectly till now. I'm not sure if I can hear the fuel pump. Is there only 1 fuel pump? And what's the setup? : gas tank, then the fuelpump, the fuelfilter and waterseperator and then the injector rail? Where is the fuelpump relay (I found 2 relays in front) and how to burp the fuellines? We found a ventil (sp?) on top of the fuelcell but no air escaped from that.

Any help would be great. I will be heading to the dock tomorrow...

    Thanks
