    2002 SANTE Ballast

Back in February, I purchased a used 2002 SANTE. This weekend was the first time we have put it to use. The center and port side ballast fill as expected. The starboard side does not fill. The pump is running, but it does not fill. Is there an impeller in the pump? Any suggestions on where to look.

The gauges do not work. Looks like there is a sending unit. How do I test the sending unit and the gauges? Is the sending unit a simple ohm test as the float moves.

Anyone ever put each of the three pumps on their own switch? Using valves to tune the wake seems a bit old school.

    1. Yes, most probably impeller. Buy the expensive one (green) if you have jabsco pumps.
    2. Yes, sender is a stick with a float. Most probably stick bent due to tank collapsing (left it in operation and sucked too much)
    3. Yes, new boats bring one switch (and pump) per tank. It is worth.

does it still have aerator pumps? if so, and you still have the manual valves under the dash, need to make sure that it's open and that the long handle valve in the engine compartment is open too. that would be the most typical reason that the pump is running but not filling up.

I believer the pumps are original. The valves under the engine hatch and in ski locker are open. Not sure what is under the dash.

I have looked through many threads, but have yet to see details on someone actually doing this mod. Has someone detailed switches and wiring? Trying to avoid reinventing the project.

most of the 02-03's came with both the manual valves under the engine hatch and the ski locker that you mentioned, and three mechanical valves that you would open and close from the helm. mine were located under the dash on the left hand side kick panel. there would be three of them side by side. i would see if it has those or not, since they are notorious for failing to open/close properly

I will check but I am confident there are no valves under the helm. Thanks for the advice. I will let you know what I find.

There are no manual valves under the helm. Hoses run from hull penetration, valve, pump, to ballast task.

They don't look like valves they are just 3 small black levers. Get under your dash below the steering wheel and look to your left ( inside of the walkthrough windscreen wall) that is where the valve levers should be. When you see them they should be self explanatory. That's where my friends 05 valve handles are. My 01 has 2 small valves behind the drivers seat below the stereo which is to the right hand side of the ballast gauges on mine. They look like shower knobs. Not sure when they changed from my type to the ones under the helm. If it's neither of these positions them your system had probably been changed. Hope this helps.

2002 didn't have helm valves. Only the ones by the engine. 2003 they added the remote valves at helm, which were terrible and leaked.

I don't have a solution to the problem unfortunately. My guess is the pump is shot. It's a fairly simple system so you will need to locate the pump by the engine and see if it is pumping water or not.

Mine did the exact same thing. Check your vent line mine was stopped up with a dirt dobber nest causing an air lock. Cleaned it out. Worked perfect

I have learned the pump is slow. It will fill eventually. Just will check the vent. That could cause the same issue

                          Hi Guys,

I have a 2002 SANTE as well. There are 2 valves behind the stern seat basically thin blue handles. they are at the front of the engine located on the frame of the stern seat. One for the left and one for the right side. Also my senders are all shot as well. I usually just wait until i hear water coming out the holes then i know that they are full.

the steps to follow are when the fill pump is activated

                          1) Reach down to make sure there is power to the fill pump
2)YOu can then feel if there is water feeding through the hose after the fill pump

Sometimes you need to prime it by driving the boat while filling.

                          Hope this helps ....
