    1998 Air Nautique PCM 40 a slipping.

The other day we were boarding and my boat started to slow down but was holding rpms, checked tranny fluid and it was grey, reverse still worked and I could get it to go back into gear if I revved it up. Called my buddy to tow us in and ordered new clutches. Anyway my buddy and I installed the new clutches (old ones looked fine) and I took it back out, it got up and worked fine until I took it off plane, it slipped out of gear and I had to sleep on the boat because I took it out at Two in the morning as soon as we finished working on it. In the morning, it jumped onto plane and made it back to the boat ramp but slipped when I slowed down. the fluid was still good, what does it sound like to yall bad pump?

What are you using for fluid? Shouldn't it be red ATF, I wanna say DexMerc III? The fluid doesn't look milky like it had water mixed in does it?

Valvoline Dex Merc III, when I bought it the fluid was milky, swapped it out immediately. I have put 200 hours on it since, the boat has 1,200 hours on it now, but it looked like someone has been through it before. The fluid wasn't milky just grey, it didn't look red at all.

Transmission case is worn out where clutch drum rides you need a complete transmission. the grey is from the aluminum from the case, you probably had water in the fluid and it sat for some time before you ran the boat.
