Ok here's the latest on this ski nautique saga:
installed new fuel pump. starts right up when cold. run up to 160 engine temp. turn off. still has problems starting. once started. after about 5 min. engine starts to run rough and dies. Get it restarted, runs for 5 mins, then dies.
Just had carburetor rebuilt. Runs good, fires right up. However it STILL dies after warmed up and I turn it off.
I'm really getting worn out. Is this boat just a POS or what is the problem?
No one can figure it out!
Here's the history. I've replaced/fixed almost everything:
Updated Status:
1. replaced plugs, cap, rotor and coil
2. after 3 hours of skiing engine quit at dock
3. I think the MSD coil fried the old magnetic distributor comonents
4. Ok, no problem replace with Electronic conversion kit including ballast resistor
5. Installed myself per instructions. Could not get boat to start
6. took to Nautique dealer in Ranch Cordova. Turns out the kit was bad
7. Order new kit and return old for refund
8. Dealer installs and get boat to run
9. Take boat out for day of skiing. Runs good. Starts most of the time. Still some starting issues. HAve to open throttle up fully to start
10. Install new Fuel/Water separator filter. Clean carburator
11. Ski yesterday. Boat fires up at dock.
12. Ski several sets. Turn off engine. Hard to restart. Have to finesse throtle to restart
13. After several more sets (without turning off engine) motor back to dock
14. 5 mph zone near dock, engine starts to miss, run rough then died. Could not restart
15. What the heck?

Common hard start hot issue is TFI module on the EFI engines. Do you have a TFI module. Thick Film Ignition. It sits right next to the coil. That module controls the timing using the Hall switch in the distributor.

Can you post a few detailed pics of your motor? Hard to visualize what you have.
Do you think your problem is heat related? From your description it seems like it's OK cold but not OK hot.
Also, is the problem idle and starting specific - that is, runs run at higher speeds but has problems with the hot start or idling only.2004 206 Air Nautique Limited - Black with Vapor Blue (family style)
