Hey guys I just bought a 99 supersport an the v drive is making a different noise almost like a bearing is going out or in the process of going out. Its not overly loud noise but deffinatly noticeable. Any one had these units go bad Im pretty sure its a walters. Any advice I can get would help. I drained and refilled oil an the noise is still there no metal shavings or debris came out in the oil either.

What did you put in for fluid? I believe it calls for straight 30 weight. Does the oil level look correct when you check it in the water? It's easy to get a false reading when you check on a trailer.Shawn

If it's a high pitched hum/whine at certain rpms it may be normal. I had a 97 super sport that sounded like that for the 700 or so hours I owned it. Had a guy on the boat one time and he commented on the noise and that he had heard it on another nautique of similar year.

Oil level is good floating as well. Changed it twice this season been running standard 30 weight oil. No its not the high pitch wine sound. Its almost sounds like something is rubbing or grinding on the drive shaft, but there isnt anything in plane sight that looks problematic.

Is it only audible at low RPM's when you just put it in gear? If that is the case it is probably the damper plate. Do a search on here and there are a few threads on it. My 01 makes the bearing noise (sounds like a bearing rolling around in a metal can) when I am just at idle in gear and goes away at higher speeds. It does not seem to be causing any problem except for that annoying noise, so im hesitant to drop 1K to get it fixed at this point.
