ok so after finishing my 2000 san motor replacement and all kinks worked out. I bought another one to leave at our lake house to stay so I don't have to keep hauling our boat three hours away. hole new boat to me but new problem as well. working on a 2000 san 624 hours. I have a exhaust tube smoking at idle. I flushed the engine no change checked rwp impeller is good and no play in pump went threw all lines feeding that side. one side is cool and the other is well over 160 after five min of running. I don't see any leaks coming from anywhere. all conections are good and have ben checked. after three hours and nothing found im lost. engine temp stys around 160 on guage as well as temp gun. what gets me is the plenum is warm as well. is it possible the water pump its self is going out or could it be running rich on one side. I have checked timing all is well their. no codes and no check engine light. water is flowing threw it.

smoking exhaust tube
Take the exhaust hoses off and run it for a few seconds. If there's no water coming out or a large discrepancy from right to left then the first thing to check for is a blocked riser. These do rust out (especially in salt) and the flakes of rust clog where the main galleries taper into the round section of the riser. The same could be said for the manifold but the blockage is more likely to be in the riser.

Sorry to piggyback on this but after a big rain I ran my boat on early morning water. There was a lot of debris and I sucked up some lake trash. Exhaust tubes got hot and started smoking so I shut the motor off and got towed in. Replaced impeller checked all hoses(I think)Cleaned out strainer replaced o ring. Still not getting proper water circulation. All I can think of now is to replace the whole strainer...05 SANTE Excalibur 343
