    Over heating 91 ski nautique

    boat in for the first time since storage. My dealer put the water strainer back togeter w/o the gasket. Impeller self distructed. I replaced strainer gasket and new impeller, checked for correct water flow. Remover all hoses and flushed with a garden hose. Connect all and the motor still overheating. Removed thermastat ( in working order) replaced and tried again . Still over heating ?

    All ideas appreciated

      Could you have installed the pump on upside down, The screw thru the side that holds the cam should go towards the motor.

          Is the back side of the impeller cool? It could be pumping water but your guage could be off. Check all of your hose fittings and make sure that they are snug and especially the two fittings for the bowl to fit onto the hoses.

              I have checked the correct installation of the raw water pump and believe I have ruled out any leaks. The TEmp guage does change so I feel its working and the motor is obviously hot. The impeller housing is cool as are the lines up to the thermostat housing. I have tried it both with and without the thermostat in and see no change. I believe the thermostat would have prevented any vains of the old impeller from entering the motor water jacket. The should have gone through the bypass lines to the exhaust. I have flushed these with a garden hose.

                  I would start by pulling the hose off at the thermostat and see if you are pumping water to that point. If its not it has to be in the raw water pump, the filter or the pickup, if you are pumping then the restriction has to be beyond that point. Note the volume of water also, you may be getting enough to cool the water pump to the touch but not enough to cool the engine.

                  Some possibilities, wrong impeller; installed with the impeller fins pointing the wrong way. I have a hard time believing it is in the engine itself.
