    03 SAN Prop

    Good day all,
I'm heading to Lake Powell in a month and wondering if anybody has any suggestions on the right prop to purchase for the altitude out there (3700'). I'm currently at sea level with a stock prop on my 03 SAN with a 330.

    Thanks

    Andrew

Wakemakers recommends the 1578 for high or heavy. I bought it for heavy (365' ele) and I'll say it's overkill. I lost a lot of top end but it sure comes out of the hole well.

I just bought the 1578. How much top speed did you lose?

Are you just running stock ballast? If so I think the stock prop (assuming 644) should be fine for that elevation. A 1578 will get you on plane a little faster with stock ballast but the 644 will be quite a bit more efficient if you plan to do some cruising around the lake with your boat. If you don't plan to cruise much and you are running heavy then the 856 or 1578 is probably what you are looking for.

I can't remember what the exact numbers are, but at 3500ish rpm I'm about 27mph.

Shawn what prop are you running? On my gt-40 boats I always had good luck with the 644. I was never comfortable giving up the ability to cruise the lake at a decent speed to go with anything more aggressive. I also ran 2800lbs of ballast. I now run the same ballast setup but my python boat uses a 1272. This was what was recommended by ACME.

I am typically running a little over 2000 lbs of ballast and believe it or not I still have the stock OJ 14 x 18 on there. I talked to the guys at N3 and they were saying the ACME 380 was a great fit for the Python so I picked up one of those off here a while ago but haven't gotten around to experimenting with it yet. I am sure the CNC Acme will be smoother but I have no problems with the performance of the OJ. It gets the boat on plane nice and quick and I spin about 2300 rpm at 23.5 mph. What are you spinning for RPMs at wakeboard speed with the 1272? I'll have to look into that if the 380 doesn't live up to expectations.

I had the OJ 14x18. Until I bent it in possum kingdom Memorial Day weekend. I really liked it. Everything you described. Sent it for repair but they said it was repaired once before improperly and can't be fixed now.... Not sure I believe that.

If you are in dfw, try the other prop shop. There are two good ones that I know about. May be more.

I had a 380 too but really like the 1272. The 14x18 has more top end by a few MPH but the hole shot is better on the ACME. I max out at 48MPH as compared to 52ish with the stock 14x18.

3700 feet isn't really altitude. Use what you have. Ski at 6000 feet on lake in Denver everyday on stock prop. If you loose anything it would be top end speed. I only get to 40 here and at sea level should be 43. Don't notice anything on the pull.

Today was my first day with the "heavy ballast" 1578 acme prop. It put me on plane really fast with 2000 lbs of ballast. But the trade off is cruising speed. At 30mph I was running 4000 rpm. On cruise days I might put my old 14x18 OJ back on...
