    GT 40 will not fire

Ran like a Boss and just shut down. After lots of searching including the kill switch check, I have determined there is no power to the Carter pump. My test lite shows both relays have power but nothing at the pump. Where do I go from here?

Down load the GT-40 service manual from this site. It has several electrical diagrams in the back, including one with the wiring for the fuel pumps.

Do the fuel pumps run if you jump pin 30 to pin 87 on the fuel pump relay socket?

This link show how to run the fuel pumps with the engines computer, without haveing the engine run.

This link has information on the two relays.

Yep! That jump made the fuel pump run and the engine starts. In a pinch can I run the boat with this "jump" or is that not a smart idea? Can't get a relay until next week.

You can run it that way but the fuel pump will be on all the time. If your not running the engine I would pull the jumper wire or cut the batter off. Now that you have the jumper wire made up id keep it on the boat just in case you have another relay failure. Should be able to get the relay at any decent auto parts store.

If I remember how the engine is wired, jumping pins 30. and 87 on the fuel pump relay causes the fuel pumps to run, even when the key is off. The engine computer also shuts the fuel pumps off, if the engine is not turning, for some reason. The Safety Lanyard also turns the fuel pumps off.
In other words, there is a lot of safety protocalls that happen with the fuel pump relay.

If you, and your boat and family was about to go over a waterfall, or you were stuck in the middle of a lake in a thunderstorm, and the only way to get the engine to run was to jump the relay socket, I would do it. In most other cases, no.

You might be able to get a relay sooner from another boat dealer. It is a common relay, with pretty standard pin placement. It would not surprise me if you could get the relay at a Mercury, or a Volvo-Penta dealer

Thanks for the response. Seems the part # is out dated and everyone looks at me like I'm retarded when I show them the relay. Auto parts stores have similar relays with no mounting bracket and they are not large enough for the water proof gasket. Anyway, I beat on the relay with a screw driver. Guess what, back in action! Yes, put about 2 hours on boat today with at least 10 starts and not a failure. I did order one from NautiqueParts because I am sure it will fail again. Apparently there are magnets or something similar inside that were locked up. Thank goodness I did not order an ECM.

Napa AR174. No bracket and existing bracket does not mate up to the ar174. Could use and zip tie or just tape in place while you get the new one.
