Should I run one battery at a time or both

Just took delivery of a 2006 sv211 team edition. So excited to be a part of the Nautique family!! First boat I have owned with a dual battery. Should I run one battery at a time or use both? I have heard conflicting opinions on this. Also, do I need to switch the battery selector to off when I am done using the boat if it is only going to sit overnight?...or if it is going to sit a week or two?...does it make a difference?

I would suggest to keep it on one (or the either) when boat is not running (i.e. listening to music). That way you always have the other battery as backup to restart the engine. Switch to both when boat is running, thereby making sure both are topped off (or charging). The switch is a "make before break". So you can switch from battery 1 to 2 or both without stopping engine.

I personally switch to 0 when not using the boat unless I want to keep auto bilge on. It would not make a difference in theory, but there could be a parasitic drain somewhere. It is kind of a double check that you aren't draining the batteries at all by putting to 0.

I used to run both all the time. We didn't stop and listen to music for longer than 30-45 min, and I never had an issue.

I use 1 on Odd months and 2 on Even months and I have the factory Prosport charger/maintainer so I just plug it in when the boats back in the garage so I don't worry about charging on the lake unless I do something to draw one down. I don't usually make it a habit to sit and listen to the stereo for long periods of time but if I did I would still have the second one to switch over to. Not sure what would be worse, using 1 all day and finding out after running it down sitting that 2 was dead and you just didn't know it; or thinking that you were only using 1 all day and finding out you forgot to switch it to 1 and you really ran them both down.

The way mine is wired if I don't leave at least one battery on overnight you have no power to the bilge pumps, the newer boats don't have the on/off/auto toggle switches. In the garage mine sits plug in master switch off, if it spends time outdoors it sits plug out master switch off, and on the water it sits with one of the 2 batteries on.

Never turn your Perko thru 0 with the engine running, you can zap your alternator.With the engine running, be careful if you must make an adjustment... To only go through 1, 2 or 1+2. NEVER around through 0.My Perko never gets touched when the engine is running just to avoid this possibility. I'd shut the engine down to adjust Perko.
