    on-board charger mounting ideas ?!?!?!

ok guys, i just picked up a prosport on-board charger that iv'e been needing for a couple years now. got in the boat tonight with it and realized there really isn't any great, obvious place to mount the thing. i remember core-rider put his in a great spot beside the rear bench on the wall, but i'm not wanting to remove the bench seat to get it in. does anyone have any brilliant ideas for a mounting location??

also, whats the best/easiest way to extend the leads to the batteries? they sell extensions from promariner but they are way overpriced and i would rather make them the exact length i need them.

As far as mounting you could really put it just about anywhere. I chose to mount mine near the rear bench because it placed it closer to the batteries and I wouldn't have to lengthen all the wires, just the ones for the opposite side of the boat.

I bought marine grade tinned wire, cut the ends off the charger and spliced the new wire. Then I reattached the ends I cut off the charger. Their wire extension kit is poorly designed IMHO. I talked with ProMariner and they said if there was a warranty issue they wouldn't cover it since their extensions were not used, but I've had 2.5 years of great service out of my charger so it's a non-issue.

you cut away the carpet and attached some hdpe with liquid nail, right? and on the cables, did you move the in-line fuse to the end too or just leave it where it was?

Yes I cut away the carpet, glued a piece of HDPE down, and mounted the charger to it. I cut the wires behind the fuses so they would be close to the batteries like the factory wiring. Spliced in the extra length of wire, and re-attached the fuses with ring ends.

yeah i have plenty of space on my amp board under the observers seat, but was trying to get it back closer to the batteries. oh well, will prolly just mount it there and run/extend the cables ...
