    Prop Removal No Puller

    Hey guys,

I'm in a pinch and need to do a prop swap ASAP. I don't have a prop puller or time to order one, any tips on how to get the prop free without a puller?

    Thanks so much!

Harmonic pullers use vibration. In a pinch you might try to put a couple of nuts on the shaft and give them a good tap with a hammer to see if it breaks loose. Just be carefully you don't mess up the threads.

Is there a boat shop near you. Even if they are not a nautique dealer, they might have the tool

I have pulled plenty of props with no puller. Heat the hub of the prop with a torch, put a block of wood behind it and beat the heck out of it until it pops. Moderate chance of damaging the prop, boat, or yourself using this technique...

take two ball peen hammers, place the head of one hammer on the prop hub where the shaft passes through, use the other hammer to strike the opposite side (180 degrees opposite) of where the other hammer is resting on the prop hub. This should create the harmonic effect like a puller on a ball joint.

Block of wood and rubber mallet. Be sure to rotate the prop so you don't beat just one side of it (and the shaft)

Be sure to only loosen the nut and not remove it completely. It can shoot off there like a bullet with out the nut when it finally breaks free.

                  I hear the G23 props are "self-removing"! Sorry - I couldn't resist.

That was super funny. I am literally laughing out loud. Too bad that comment is in this thread instead of that one. I would add that owners of the g23 had to pay extra for the feature. Maybe that is what is going on. It is just that Nautique hasn't worked out the bugs yet. So the prop is ejecting too soon.

Maybe someone can find and pick up the g23 propellers and sell em back to the owners. Kinda like trans am t-tops back in the 80's.

This is what I've done, make sure the nut is still on the shaft a couple of turns.

What's stopping you from unbolting the coupling from the v-drive and tapping the end of the shaft? It takes a lot less force to break a tapered hold when it is applied evenly. And since the end of the strut is fairly perpendicular to the shaft should it not come of easily? (Or easier)

I tried this weekend to remove without a puller. The prop had been in for 8 years I'm guessing.
Absolutely no way. I towed it to the shop where they used the acne clamp puller and a torch with a hammer to get it off.
