Do mufflers wear out?

My 1997 sounds a bit loud in the boat to me. Almost like a resonance.

I had the muffler out to inspect it for holes and looked into the bafflles...looked OK to me. No visible damage or anything. I've seen threads where overheating and / or backfires can kill mufflers but I have no evidence of that.

Still, seems sort of loud in the boat in particular.

Do these things wear out?

If its a hull hugger I'd say no. There isn't anything to wear out. Here is my video series on fixing mine if it helps. Not sure which muffler you have. It took me a second pull of the muffler to find the loose baffle.
