230 rear bilge pump location?

My 2013 230 has the rear bilge pump located inside the rear manhole cover below the rear seat walk through. See pics. Is this the proper location or should it be located under the motor? I always end up having quite a bit of water left in the rear bilge and a pain to get the water out (currently use one of the long barrel toy water guns to draw the water out.) We keep the boat on a covered lift.

The black thing in you photo is a transducer not a bilge pump. I have a 2010 230, pump in mine is behind the engine on a hump which doesn't let me get all the water out either.
