2000 SAN 210 Keypad and tripping ignition breaker issues

We seem to have two electrical problems on our 2000 Super Air Nautique 210 that might or not be related to each other. First, the breaker labelled as “Ignition Run” on the PME boxes keeps tripping every time we attain a certain speed while accelerating. We can manage to run at low speed (e.g. 8-10 mph) without too many issues but even then the breaker will trip once in a while. This problem seems intermittent. Last fall, we ended up the season stuck in the middle of the lake because the breaker in the PME boxes would not hold and would blow off every time we started the engine. We had the boat serviced this spring at the nearest Nautique dealer but they couldn’t reproduce the problem and fix it. We haven’t had any issues with the boat until 2 weeks ago. Note that we have changed the coil and presently the alternator is being refurbished as the bearings were worn out. They have tested it and it works well. Next weekend, we will try the boat without the alternator to ensure that this is not the problem.

Also, the starboard keypad doesn’t seem to work anymore. Bilge pump, navigation lights, ballast pumps, … none of those works anymore (they worked two weeks ago). Note that before it failed, the lights on each button never turn on when we hit any button. Each buttons were working, but not the lights. Also, if we press in the middle of the keypad some lights turn on, this is really weird. The port side keypad has been replaced with a new one lately as is has some intermittent issues with the numbers (the 3 button didn’t work every time) and the horn didn’t work either. After changing the keypad, both issues were fixed (horn and code numbers… everything works on this keypad). I’m wondering if the starboard keypad needs to be replaced or if we have issues with the PME boxes? Can we test the starboard keypad in the port connection to test it? Could the stalling issues and the “dead” keypad be related? Any thoughts?

Same boat for me, same year too. Some electrical gremlins are beginning to pop up, possible grounding and/or continuity issues and Perfect Pass being a bit of PITA. Keep us posted of what they find (SG SportMarine I guess?). Merci et bonne chance!!

Hi Seb, another Montrealer here. I just had my master power switch broken by my 2 year old who stepped on it. I ordered a replacement but had put in another SPDT switch so I can still use the boat. The boat ran fine but whenever I switched on the pumps or almost anything, the whole boat would shut down. I replaced the small switch with a fat jumper cable and 2 male lug connectors and the problem went away.

It's possible that the switch is corroded and not enough current is getting through. I had an intermittent switch a few years ago so I know that it's a common thing to look out for.

This is a similar part but mine has lug connectors and not screw terminals:

Hi, I own the boat with Seb.

We fixed the keypad problem at the end of the season last year. We simply replaced it (not cheap)
For the ignition run beaker problem, we still have this problem once in a while. We have run the boat with the alternator unplugged and still have the problem. I remember that when it started 2 years ago, sometimes the breaker tripps after I put the boat on accessory. Usually, at this mode, we heard the fuel pumps priming for 2-3 seconds. Maybe our problem is related to the fuel pump. Their might be an electric problem with this fuel pump or relay. Our dealer recommend to change the fuel pump every 2-3 years ???

Also, sometimes the boat didn't start, we heard a click when we press start, but the starter didnt turn. We have to play with the trottle and put it back in neutral than it will start... nut sure if its related.

Thanks for your help, we are discouraged.

now that sounds like the neutral safety switch; maybe that could fix everything?

Look into the TPS, if not properly in neutral, then the boat cannot start. Also, the safety switch could be a simple solution. AS for changing the fuel pump(s) every 2-3 years, only sounds good from their standpoint IMHO.

Hi, I'm the co owner of the boat.

We had hard time with our starter. It was turning really slow. I charged the 2 batteries and have them tested. They were in good conditon. The i removed the starter and have it tested. It was bad and we need a new one. We will install it on next week end. Hope it will fix the slow cranking problem.

Now we still have the same intermitent problem with the ignition run beaker that pops once in a while. In anybody had the same issue ? It really fustrating while it's happening while surfing or wakeboarding.

My next guess is the fuel pumps (don't know wittch one) or the ignition distributor.

              Thanks for your help

To test the pumps, punch in your start code and listen for them working. Could also be the relay for these pumps that could be the problem. Had to change both my pumps last summer, but we started diagnosing with the relay. Good luck!!
