Hey guys - I noticed this sign in my engine today telling me to check this anode every 30 days. Boat is fresh-water only. Is this something I need to check? If so, how?
Fresh water or not you should check it. What boat, year and model? Look up sacrificial anode on the Internet. Older house hold water heater needed these. The idea is instead of the harsh water eating the inside of your water heater the anode would attach to the minerals/acid and corode before the tank walls. In house holds they went to glass lined tanks and many new ones don't have an onode. In older household water heaters there is a nut on the top that has a rod attached to it. The rid corodes before the heater walls and needs replaces every few years. Most owners don't know this and end up replacing the water heater before it's time. I'm not sure on the boat side but bet it is the same type of rod but much smaller.
