    Direct Drive Surf system question.

I've seen quite a few awesome homebuilt NSS style and SurfGate style builds.
I have an 87 Supra Comp. Working on getting a Nautique, but this has to work for now.
Well, I acquired Lenco actuators trim tabs controller and switch from a scraped project from work.
I really don't have the "real estate" on the transom to make a NSS style, and the SurfGate seems very easy, especially since I have tabs already! But what about the Supra style?
My only thought with the Supra one is that that hull, as with all these, are designed with a particular wave enhancing device in mind. My gut feeling is the SurfGate would be the most forgiving for hulls not originally designed for surf wave making.
    Thoughts?

As a former Comp owner, my .02 is to scrap the idea with the Comp and move to another hull. The Comp is just not designed to displace the amount of water necessary to surf. It's a slalom hull. The freeboard on the Comp is low - dangerously low when sacked out. There were a few guys on the Supra forum that tried a surfgate on a Comp. Not sure it worked. I heard of one guy that was able to surf behind a newer Comp but he put a ton of weight in it. It was also the longer hull with more of a V. The 86-99 hulls are just too flat.

While I totally agree with you that the comp is definitely not the greatest starting point. I assure you, it can be surfed.

Is it a 230 full tilt with NSS? Of course not. Does it work? Yup. Both my buddy and I can go ropeless indefinitely. As long as we don't go over the few shallow spots in the lake!

So seeing I got these parts for free, I figured, why not try it.

How nice is the comp ? Any Mods like that will only take away from the comps value . I am rebuilding a 84 comp [stringers] when finished I will probably sell it and get a 93 or newer with the newer hull. I would not even consider a boat that has been molested in such a way. If its junk anyway have at it.

It's not brand new. The interior is redone, less carpet and helm.
I put in a new-er motor, electronic ignition, rebuilt the velvet drive, it has a tower, audio wired in, transom lights wet sanded and wheeled the hull, although it needs it again.
My buddy put it like this, "you'll sell this boat to 'you'" meaning, When I go to sell it, it'll be a guy who doesn't have a lot of money, but is pretty mechanical and loves the water and wakeboarding and anything behind the boat. A slalom purest won't want this boat with a tower and all the ballast that will go with it anyway, so if/when this works, I don't see it being a big resale killer.
