    2003 Super Sport Gateway Failure

    Good evening all,

I am hoping someone can help me. I just purchased my first Nautique and within 3 days discovered that my gateway had failed prior to purchase and no one is willing or able to help me. The dealer, after missing or ignoring the fault during the inspection I paid them for, says the box isn't available. In the meantime, I have no reliable gauges and a really bad impression of Correct Craft and this particular dealer who shall remain nameless for now. Has anyone been able to bypass the gateway and replace the gauges? What gauges were used? How do I get the tach info directly from an Excalibur?

I am making the assumption that I can cut and splice the wires before the gateway to get the fuel, oil pressure, temp, depth and voltage information. I know I can extend the line from the speedometer pick-ups (pitots, not the paddle).

I just need help with the specific gauges and how to get the tach info from the ECU.

Thank you in advance for your assistance.

I do not believe it is possible to by-pass the gateway. I believe the instrument cluster is similar to the ones on my 2005 SANTE. The instruments communicate to the gateway using a CAN communication network similar to the ones used in new automobiles.
I would suggest you visit the Faria company website to find the gateway manual to determine the electrical interface. The first thing I would check is the power input to the gateway module. Nothing can be directly connected without the gateway.

I second this, 4 mechanics looked at my boat and told me they thought the gateway was bad before I found out the there was a bad connection on the data wire coming from the motor.

In my 03, I had a ground wire missing from the factory on the gateway box. I had to work with Faria to figure out this wire was missing (I had depth, air and water temp not working). I'm not saying yours is a missing wire, but I would double check all the connections to your gateway box. Also, make sure the ground wire has low to no resistance to the engine block or your negative terminal on your battery.

Do your gauges work at all?

I pulled the gateway, cleaned all connections and reconnected with help from Jason at Faria. Some gauges work, others are intermittent and still others are just wrong.

The hours read 6011.8, the analog volt meter dances from 13-15 but the digital rad on the tach shows 11.6 and continuously beeps the alarm. Speedo is correctish. The oil gauge failed once completely but seems to be steady now. The depth and air temp seem correct but the raw water temp is off by several degrees. Engine water temp is good.

Honestly that sounds **** near my 2003 SAN. I have 6K on my hours and the water temp always reads in the 40s. I really only watch the digital voltmeter is accurate, and usually reads between 12.8 and 13.5 depending on what is running, but there is variance between the two. Speedo can be calibrated.

Sounds like your gateway is okay, or at least will get you to still enjoy the boat.

My gateway box reads the incorrect hours also. If the gateway box is unavailable as a replacement part, that would mean that someone with a 9 year old 2005 boat would be SOL if the gateway failed. Will Faria repair gateway boxes?

Faria will not repair the gateways. They no longer produce the microprocessors required.
Correct Craft is reportedly working on a harness and entirely new set of gauges to replace failed gateways.

I don't remember the name of the thread, but i recall the solution is to use a small hose (about 1/4" i think) and run it from the inflow to the bag, then through the bag to the overflow on the bag. This way when the bag goes flat, it will suck air through the small hose and down into the tank. I'll try to find the thread for you.

Did you ever find a fix? I am afraid that my 05' has a bad gateway. I never had oil pressure on the gauge or the engine temp on the gauge from when I purchased, I wasn't all that worried about it since I have digital read outs of them on the tach. Last night I decided I would check everything out since the boat has been laid up for almost 2 months now and to charge the batteries. Now I don't have a tach or digital read out with my engine vitals, and the fuel gauge is now not working. I pulled the dash and checked all of the connections to the gauges and checked the connections at the gateway and all the connections are good but I still have nothing except for a speedo, the digital read out on the speedo.

after reading this thread i am curious to find out what Nautique is doing for a fix on this issue also. i see that nautique parts has the gateways listed as "not available" so it would appear that faria really isn't making or fixing them anymore, as stated above. this is an issue that any of us with an 03-05 should be concerned about going forward ...

There is a gateway box in the For Sale section. From a 2006 220. Not mine - just thought I'd pass it along.

I saw that but unfortunately I do not believe that one would work. Mine has the pitot tubes attached to it in the middle. I emailed faria and plan on stopping by buxton this afternoon to see what they have to say. Those prices online hurt.
