Had my GT40 engine overheat on the weekend and searched the system and found that the strainer was loose, so I imagine it would be sucking air rather than water. I tightened that up and the engine cooled down ok at idle, but I didn't run it up again. Brought the boat home, double checked impeller and it was all good. New gasket and sealed the pump back up. My old temp gauge wasn't working so, bought a new Faria one to replace the VDO, same temp range.
Running boat in driveway and new gauge is reading 200 degrees running off of water hose and the water comes out in periodic gushes. I thought when I winterized it came out as a stream in idle, but my memory could be off. It's been a year!
So questions are: the Faria should be a straight swap for VDO over same temp range? should water be coming out in gushes or steady stream?
Also, should the exhaust hoses that go to Invertaflow exhaust system be stiff or soft? I have one that is soft and one that is hard as a rock. Yes, that sets up perfectly for a joke.
Thanks!
