    Voltage and alternator question

So I just ran bigger wires to my dash and all my guages and PP work as they should. I expected that with the boat running that I would read a steady 13.x volts on the dash due to alternator charging. This is not the case. When I first started driving down the lake it was reading 13.5v but then for the rest of the day it was reading 12.2v. Is this normal? Is my alternator going out? Do I need a bigger alternator?

    No, that is not normal.

First thing's first. Use a multimeter and measure at the battery terminal when the dash gauge is reading 12.2v. Then you will know whether it is a gauge issue or not.

You need to verify the voltage at the alternator and the helm with a diagnostic volt meter and not the rely on the helm gauge for diagnostics.
