Parasitic battery drain - calling electricians for help - 2008 sante 210

First time ever friday got the low voltage beep/light. Voltage showed 12.1 or 12.2 pre start. Just now was testing and found parasitic drain. 28 milliamp drain with battery on 2 (I only checked 2, not sure if matters, because it should not drain on 2 anyway). The drain is with 3 way switch in center position, which to me meant there should be 0 draw. I just replaced the 3 way switch last year so don't think it is that because it is new, and because when i move the switch up to "all on" or down to "bilge only" then I get change in amps used.

The drain does go to 0 when i pull the pictured ignition fuse. So this is where you all come in. Not sure if the .28 draw is normal or not maybe it is, and the low voltage was due to something else. One friend simply said don't worry about it. (Anyone know what their pre start voltage reading is? Obviously just press button til voltage shows before you hit the start button).

Oh, also i read about bad diodes in alternator causing drain, so i tested with alternator completely disconnected, so not that.

Thoughts? Things to test? Don't worry? Thanks!

Update: I think I might be wrong about the ignition circuit cause the drain goes away after 30 seconds even. Somehow the ignition circuit must be going to sleep.

So that leaves me with no drain, but low voltage warning and the 12.1 pre start voltage!?

Is it possible that there is a slight current being sent to the fuel pump(s)?

I have received a low voltage warning once or twice in my 08 210 as well. But a multimeter confirmed there was a .5v discrepancy between the dash and the volt meter. Did you check the real voltage at the battery? Maybe something (like the keypad) goes to sleep after a set time and there's no drain but perhaps a faulty voltage reading from the gateway like we saw on older sans?

aZ, thanks for the post. That is what I did find later and kind of concluded, at least for now. There was a discrepancy where boat is showing less then my charger's volts were showing. I should take the multimeter out there and compare.

First time in 2 years...I can only guess something is loose or slightly corroded some where. Doubt I can ever find it. I am unsure where the voltage number comes from. I don't think there is a sensor plugged into the gateway or anything. I think it is reported to the faria gateway from the ecu...could something in the ecu itself be getting old and worn?

Makes me kind of want to wire a voltmeter of my own in somewhere. I kind of doubt there is much to worry about with two batteries. But what throws me is that how can it be low with 2 batteries.

I am unfamiliar with the "older sans" issue. Can anyone describe that issue?

            Some info here http://www.planetnautique.com/vb3/ar...p/t-17929.html

I haven't tackled the issue for the same reason. But I guess I could stick the volt meter on a few common locations and see if there's any voltage drop.

And if anyone can confirm the dash voltage signal does in fact come from the ecu then that may save Scott and I some frustration.

I agree I guess we check a few locations and see what we get.
