    Connector Rod bearing GT-40

I'll never be mistaken for a mechanic so bear with my ignorance please. Bought a 2000 Ski Nautique with a GT-40 in need of repair. Was told it is connector rod bearing. Any thoughts on costs or should the engine be replaced or repaired? Thanks a lot.

Rod bearing should be a motor rebuild or replace.

Thanks but OUCH!! Any idea of cost? Maybe should go to an Excalibur and zero off at this point?

Not sure about cost, but it will be near impossible to replace that GT40 with another GT40. There aren't any available. You can either have it rebuilt or go to a GM-based engine.

I'm in the same boat... Pun Intended

The 2000 Pro Air I just picked up needs a block for sure.

I can't vouch for any of the companies. Michiganmotorz, Jasperengines and several other rebuilders have the Ford marine 351w with GT heads available. They run about 3000$ with the GT heads. I am pretty sure most of them have the GT heads instead is the GTP heads.

I've looked at some of those myself. I couldn't figure out which included the GT heads and which did not but, I'm sure a quick phone call would clear that up for me.

You guys are great. Thanks for all the info. I wonder what the cost of an Excalibur 343 would be in comparison. That way I could put in zero off.

I considered buying that boat too, as he had it priced pretty low, for the mentioned reason. In the end though, the finances for me didn't work, with the needed engine rebuild. You may be best off contacting Jodi Seal (teamseal), and getting a used GT40 motor from him? He takes them on trade when people repower for ZO.

$9,200 for an Excal bob on skidim. Add ZO + install, and you're heading into TSC3 price territory. You'd have a really sweet boat, but it may be difficult to recoup your investment down the road, if that matters to you?

That is a great looking boat! Good luck with the project...

Thanks much swc5150. My second bubble butt SN. Had a '97 bought new then went to a '02 and then an '07. Had to give this one a shot. Unbelievably clean, great trailer, great colors. When he dropped to 10K I figured it was worth a go.

Michiganmotorz has a 600$ upgrade from the one listed. Making it close or right about 3k

Jasper is the GT heads for about 3014$

Not sure about the other sites. I called Jasper and spoke with them directly. I'd double check with whoever you place the order with. Jasper just calls them GT heads instead of GT40 but they are the same heads. GT40 heads are stamped with GT. GT40P heads are stamped with GTP.

I slept on it when he dropped to $10k. Rebuild the motor and you'll be sitting nice in it.
