I just went to do a oil change after 25 hours and noticed there was not alot of oil in the pan. The dipstick was barely covered way below fill? Is this normal during the break in period that a new engine will burn that much oil? Any comments or suggestions?

What brand and weight oil are you using? I use Mobile 1 15w50 in my 08 210 with a 5.7L. It uses 1 Qt between changes 50 hours.Comment

We've never had that issue, and have owned all Excals. However, there have been quite a few 200 owners who've experienced oil consumption with the 343. I heard a theory that the 343's running higher rpm's at slalom speed in the 200 is causing this. The revs are considerably higher than the same speed in the 196 (although a prop change can mitigate this, but that's another topic). I have no idea if that's true, and again, we haven't had any issues. If true, I'm guessing the 343 would also have to work fairly hard to hold speed in a SA? But to answer your question, yes it does happen. I'm just not certain it should be considered "normal", as it doesn't happen in every motor.'08 196LE (previous)
