    2007 Excalibur Mis Fire

    Hi All,

I have the 5.7L Excalibur motor and had a couple of dramas last weekend.

The motor sounded as though it was misfiring at moderate rpm. Power was ok up until this point. Not really knowing where to start, we removed all plug leads and reconnected. This stopped the miss fire and all was close to normal.

The only thing left over was a engine shudder or rough running just above idle then it appeared to disappear or get lost in the higher engine rpm after this. This is on acceleration and deceleration. Power is sill good. I can hear what sounds like a burbling/missing noise in the exhaust as we come off the plain which is not normal in the past.

As a precautionary measure, I have ordered a new set of plugs and leads since re attaching these seemed to eliminate the original misfire problem. Is there anything that this original misfire could have damaged.

The shudder I am chasing now is not that obvious but I know it was not there before the misfire issue.

    Thoughts?

    Andrew

Replace the cap and rotor on the distributor for sure. Have had several issues with these and misfiring (crossfiring)

Can a bad dis cap have varying scales of mis fire types eg. Large or just minor? Can it be the worse you dissy cap is the worse the misfire can be?

Check CAM retard. That solved my issue but you need diagnostics

Looks like the rotor and cap have seen better days. Also check the (HT) king lead between the cap and coil. I have heard of a misfire recently that was caused by a bad lead which had been rubbing on metal bracket between coil and cap.
