    Oil in Bilge/Burning Smell

Allright guys, I'll be taking the boat in for service but I'm curious if anyone has had either of these problems. Nothing came up in a few searches so here I go....

    The boat: 2005 SV211 Team with ZR6

The problem: I regularly get a burning smell coming from the engine compartment and now I've noticed clear oil in the bilge area (not sure if it's engine or trans). My boat has closed water cooling and the temperature never gets above 176 post warm up. As designed the transmission light goes out above 1200 RPM and all other gauges look great.

The smell is just like during initial break-in when the boat warms up for the first time but we're over 50 hours now and I'm still getting the smell. The oil in the bilge is new but I'm thinking the the two symptoms might be related.

    Any insights?

    RE: Oil in Bilge/Burning Smell

Right away I'm thinking valve cover gasket. Oil leaks down from the valve covers right onto the exhaust manifolds where the port meets the manifold. This extremely hot part of the engine burns the oil. Viola. Check around those covers and look for leaks there.

On my SAN, it was the VDrive leaking. Worth a look to check
      you V Drive fluid level.
