2008 196 oil drain hose leak

My 2008 196 has developed a leak at the oil drain hose connection at the pan. this is the second time i will have had to repair this. it was repaired previously in 2009 as a warranty item . Its obvious to me that the engine sits so close or on the hull that it is dislodging the oil hose pan fitting. an suggestions before i take it back to the dealer for repair. the fitting is not accessible with out pulling the motor, or undoing the drive shaft coupling and raising the back of the motor.

Are the threads pipe threads or straight? If pipe, can you tap it bigger / deeper to get the fitting "in" further.

Another option would be a grind down the 90 deg fitting to give clearance to the hull. Don't grind too much....

Or find a new 90 deg fitting that is not as tall.

We had this happen twice to our 05 196 ZR club boat. Once straight from the factory and yes they had to lift the engine to gain access and the second time at the end of this summer. We took it in, told the dealer what it was and they returned it to us saying that the engine would have to be lifted in order to access the fitting. Duh, that's why we brought it in.

Oh well, we laid the boat up for winter. I am going to try and access the fitting in the help with a couple of guys and see what we can do. The fitting is mm away from the hull, buried by hoses and impossible. Fun times.
The leak is small but even a tiny bit of oil in the bilge will cause a sheen when you run the bilge pump, not acceptable.

I am considering just removing the drain line and fitting and putting in a oil pan plug just like the old days. I have a vacuum type oil pump that will extract the oil out thru the dip stick tube for oil changes. Anyone still changing their oil this way on a newer pcm ?

I had same prob with 206 and on my new boat I requested they apply more coats of paint and clear coat for added protection before installation of pan ' , to date 400 hrs no leak , need to keep pan dry

Thats the way I usually do it on my 2012 210. If I wrestle the hose the drain plug and crawl underneath and drain it into a pan it blows oil everywhere when its warm so I have to block up the drain pain so it doesn't have as far to fall or cram a piece of hose over the end of the hose. I can get nearly all the oil out from the top side with my extractor although every other oil change I drain the rest out of the hose but if I had your problem I wouldnt hesitate to remove it, If I didn't have the hose I wouldn't worry about the extra that sits in it.

If i had your problem, I also would extract top side. However, I am kind of confused in that if you can got to it to put a plug in then can't you just fix the problem?
I actually do use the hose. I have it pulled to side of engine and looped right by the oil filter. So what I do is remove the end and use a small hand pump to pump out the oil, usually into an empty windshield washer bottle, put the end back on and clip it back to the oil filter bracket. oil change with filter is maybe 30 minutes, or less.

                Follow up
You can easily pump out almost all of the oil thru the dip stick hole with a suction pump. I did it and got all but about 4-5 oz. (after I pumped it out I hooked the pump up to the drain line to see what was left in the pan.)
The boat went to the shop. you have to pull the motor to replace the drain hose with a plug. after the drain hose was replaced with a plug THE MOTOR STILL LEAKE OIL... back to the shop for another motor pull. The bottom line the rubberized coating on the pan failed. there was moisture trapped between the coating and the pan causing excessive corrosion just above the drain plug in the sheet metal of the pan. Three small holes that leaked oil into the bilge. thank you nautique and pcm for you great quality control. it cost me $1300 after all this BS was over with.

Wow that is a weird problem. Wonder if you shipped the pan to pcm if they would maybe offer some relief? Of course without admitting any wrong doing. Car companies do this all the time and call it "goodwill".
