    limp mode 91 SN

My 91 SN ocasionally goes into limp mode for no real reason. Sometimes it will go several weeks without doiung this though. I been told to remove the whole system and install coil, distributor etc... but this is very expensive to not be sure it is the problem. Any ideas? by the way the boat does have 1950 hrs!!!

Typically this is caused by a faulty sensor. One is the temp sensor and the other I can't remember. Both are located on the top front of the motor and both have a single wire going to them. Next time it happens, disconnect them, one at a time and see if the problem goes away. It should. Whichever solves it, replace and you should be fine. These sensors screw down into the intake manifold and have a small nut on top holding the wire. All of this is assuming that the setup is similar to my 93 Sport which I think it is. Do a search as well, this topic is discussed many times.

The other sensor is the oil pressure sensor switch which is located near the oil pressure sending unit just above and a bit to the front of the oil filter. If the sensor are not the problem, then look for faulty wire connections or ground connections...a voltage drop somewher can cause this problem.

Check your spark plug wires make sure they are not arcing inside of the coil boots and causing rfi interferance which drives the module nuts at times.
