Aerator pump question -- 2 pumps in same direction in series?

I have a '01 SAN, which has the two pump in series to drain/fill the factory ballast. After removing the factory tanks and replacing them with sacs -- I put in seperate pumps to drain, so no longer use the drain aerator pump that is under the hull.

The question is -- will reversing it so that it's in the same direction as the other speed up fill times (until I have time to setup the dedicated fill through-hulls and jabsco pumps)?

I have gone back and forth if it would really help....thoughts/comments?

    Thanks,
    Ben

I would just remove it. I dont see the flow rate being mush faster then the 2nd pumps flow rate.

On this version of the ballast fill and drain system, the two pumps, from the factory were connected output to output. The fill pump pumped through the drain pump to fill the tank. To drain the tank, the drain pump pumped through the fill pump.

I would think running two pumps in series would act similar to electrical circuits. The pressure would increase, but the flow would not increase much, other than a minor increase due to the increased pressure forcing slightly more water through the resistance of the hoses.

Aerator pumps loose head the farther and more water gets in the tank. I could see if you opened up that entire line to one single pump it may increase just a bit. Not noticeable to the fill times much but I bet if you actually measured it you would get better flow

The biggest increase would be a nice 1inch through hull and 1 ⅛ hosing

DanielC, do you know if the 04 210 works the same way regarding the pumps pumping through each other?

I do not think the 2004 wake boats used the two pumps pumping through each other. I am not as familar with 2004 boats, I was no longer working for a Nautique dealer in 2004.

I've asked a similar question since albeit a DD boat my Pro Air (2000) has the same ballast setup... My plan thus far is to use the stock keypad switches... The fill switch will run a 1200gph areator with 1" hose to fill the bags. The empty switch will run a 800GPH areator pump with 3/4" hose to the drains.
