New boat (206) oil dipstick won't go back in????

I'm getting ready for the boats maiden voyage and decided to check the oil level. Now the dipstick wont go back in. looking at the dipstick tube, it makes two rather sharp turns and the dipstick is geting stuck on the second turn. The dipstick is the flat metal type and doesn't like to bend around corners. Do I have the wrong type of dipstick? My Ford van has a dipstick that is made of cable and a round end that will snake around any bend.

    Any ideas?

My '05 210 is the same way - just force it in there.

Try putting it in at different angles, 0* then 90* 180* 270* exc.
      How about \"Chales\"?

        Thanks for the replies.

I have tried forcing it, different angles, etc. I'm going to put some oil on the tip and try it one last time before replacing it with a cable type dipstick. When I Tired to force it, the tip bent. I straightened it out, but still no luck. The routing of the dipstick tube is the worst I've seen yet. I've never had a problem putting a dipstick back into an engine... until today.

On my '05 196 (w/ Excalibur 330hp), the dipstick can only be fully installed if oriented in a specific manner. On my engine, the "Engine Oil" label on the dipstick handle must be oriented so that the wording can be read if you are standing in front of the engine and facing the rear of the boat. My dipstick has a small 30 to 45 degree bend at the tip, and that angled tip has to face the front of the boat for the dipstick to be inserted.

I tihink you hit the nail on the head. Today I tried again by putting oil on the tip and orienting it the way I remeber it came out (with the words facing the rear of the boat) I had to force it past two very difficult sections but got it back it using quite a bit of force.

My dealer called PCM and ordered another tube. PCM thinks my tube has a burr in it or something. If it didn't start with a burr, it probably has one now the way I jammed it back in today.

thanks for all the help.you guys are great.

Yeah. I found that my dipstick on my 206/Excalibur is the same way. Deters checking the oil on a regular basis. If you don't put it in exactly the way it came out, its a no go.
