Just purchased a "new" '99 natique with the python 502. The boat had 9.2 hours and I am the first registered owner. My questions is it starts very hard on the first start of the day and sometimes after it is warmed up. Dealer and says I need to run it harder, it maybe loading up. When it does start I get a smell of raw fuel making me think it is injecting to much fuel at start. Dealer suggests pushing the throttle lever full open to shut of the injectors. This works but you have to be quick to back it down right away. Talked with a dealer in Indy who owned one and he saiid it should start up. He never had a starting problem. Boat has full factory warranty but Midwest has little experience with this motor. Before delivery the following was changed by delivering dealer: low and high pressure fuel pumps and filters. Injectors professionally cleaned, gas tank and lines cleaned. I love the boat but getting it started is an issue. Does anyone have any ideas? Fuel pressure is 40 lbs. Note: When started this thing really hauls.

RE: Motor starts hard. Any suggestions
SOMETIMES THE COOLANT TEMP SENSOR WILL NOT SHOW A CODE AND IT IS BASICALLY THE CHOKE ON A FUEL INJ. ENGINE AND THE SYMPTOMS ARE SIMILAR TO A CARB WITH THE CHOKE OUT OF ADJ. iT IS NOT A VERY EXP. PART. MAY BE WORTH TRYING. ANYWAY, GOOD LUCK AND LET US KNOW WHAT IT WAS.

RE: Motor starts hard. Any suggestions
Finally found why my boat would start hard while cold/warm. Motor runs great after replacing ALL 8 injectors. I had a bleed down from 40PSI to 30 PSI in 72 seconds and to 20psi in 132 seconds. This boat was/is new but sat for 5 years. Even after removing the injectors (precautionary measure) and having them professionally cleaned they failed soon after I took delivery. The dealer Century Marine in Meza took care of the problem. Thanks to Midwest correct craft.
