I have used a socket and ext. and a hammer. The tool seems to be the way to go though. As far as reinstalling you can freeze the new bearings and then take them out of the freezer just before installation and they will go in very easily. I am going to have to replace mine this year and i am going to make a puller(or try to anyway) that will press them out. We will see how that goes later.
I couldn't remove the shaft from the transmission so I had to unbolt the strut then I then placed the strut in the wise and used a socket and a hammer to remove the old bearing and install the new ones.
Do you know what type of sealant or silicone should I use when reinstalling the strut back on the boat.
Skidim suggests replacing every 300 hrs. I am 2 hours shy of 1000. I bought the boat with 300. So unless they were changed before I bought the boat. Mine are the original. I notice no vibration. What else should I look for? I guess I will just change to be on the safe side.
If you plan on replacing the strut bearing every 300 hrs please do your self a favor and do not use 3m 5200 because the next time you remove the strut it may remove the gelcoat with it , use 3m 4200 instead.
On mine when I grabbed the shaft I was able to move it up and down, with the new one it doesn't move at all, for me it was easier to remove the strut then the shaft.
