    from gear to neutual

Hi guys, has some one experience on this issue ? The boat is 2001 SAN,engine FORd GT-40,had done overhaul recently, since the engine had suck water inside, we take out the engine and v-drive from hull, ,so had a repair for this and change the rusted parts and paint and rust proof, change engine mount ,had a good joband put every thing back to hull, this job take about 2 month (since we need order parts from US,)we are in HK,we test the boat to water,it works fine than before, but find a problem, when the throttle return from gear to neutual, a click sound heard, sounds gear contact,we don’t heard this before,no idea on this.
    Have some advice?

No advice but I just noticed a similar noise on my 96 super sport when going from forward to nuetral, I don`t here it from reverse to nuetral. It is a high pitched squeak, not really loud but noticable, I don`t here a gear sound like you describe. Mechanically everything is working as normal. Sounds like a valve closing or pressure building maybe?

Are the throttle and transmission selector synchronized properly? Could it be that you are pulling the transmission into neutral BEFORE the engine is fully returning to idle (i.e. the throttle plates are not fully closed).

I suggest you re-adjust the linkages. First, do the throttle. With the throttle control in neutral, the connector at the throttle body should slip on and off the ball joint smoothly wihtout moving the throttle plates. Next move to the transmission. Disconnect the cable end from the transmission selector and ensure the transmission selector is in the neutral position (should feel detent). Then adjust the cable end so that it fits the hole (or ball) of the transmission selector without causing it to move. Move the throttle control through its range and check all cable adjustments as before.

The sound like metal touch metal, it’s noticable but works normal, just worry further problem will cause and not comfortable, DavidF speaking sounds logic, I’ll check and adjust the throttle linkage, I hope don’t need to take out the trany again, any other opinion are welcome!
