I have a 98' 196 that has significant "play" in the steering. It is most noticable when I'm pulling short line skiers, and/ or when the gas tank is full. When I crawl under the dash and hold the end of the steering shaft with one hand, and the steering wheel with the other, there is noticeable "slop or play". I was initially told that the steering cable had stretched, so I had it replaced. I don' really want to tear into the rack and pinion unless I know what I'm looking for. Any ideas? Thanks.
