    '05 SV-211 TE Speedometer problem

Any ideas as to what could be causing my problem? The speedometer guage when at idle bounces slightly. When at speed there is no change. I pulled the tubes off the pitot tubes and blew through them to make sure they were not plugged.

Perfect pass speed indicator works perfectly - paddle wheel vs. pitot tube I suppose.

    Any thoughts would be appreciated.

I hate my analog speedometer, I have even considered taping a red X over it so people don't use it. The thing bounces all over and does not read very accurate at all, however my 211 uses a completely different speedometer than yours. A few days ago my nephew was pulling me barefooting and said he backed off once the speed reached 45mph, since the boat only goes 43 with no load I suspect it was reading about 4 mph fast so I was actually footing at 39-39 not 42 as I asked him to pull me, no wonder why I couldn't do any one footers!

Mine is a digital unit running off the paddle, it's strange that it doesn't work better since the input is the same as the perfect pass.

just to get this straight, you guys are talking about problems w/ ur Faria speedos. We don't hear much of that on this site. ANYONE ELSE

Yes. I have a Faria speedometer. The other functions on the gauge work.

check your connection on the faria box. after that, you might have a bad box or a bad guage. Are your pick up tubes in the down position?

Skinnautique.. I had a similar problem and wondered how far down the pickup tubes should be. Mine seem to point outward at a 45 degree angle. My old boat they would point straight toward the ground or at 90 degrees (parallel to the ground)? I have about 70 hrs on the boat now and the speedo seems to work pretty well most of the time.. we have a lot of weeds to deal with and they become plugged frequently. ON the upside the Perfect Pass paddle wheel seem to run all the time.. at speeds below 26-27 they are the same as the Faria guage, above that the two speedos start to differ.. at barefoot speeds it's 5-8 mph difference?

Thanks for the suggestion to check the Faria box. Anyone know where it is? Is the box different from the gauge itself? Yes, the pitot tubes are in the down position and are clear.

Your pick up tubes basically have two positions: up and down. Flip them up and then flip them back down and you should be set. As for dialing in your paddle wheel and speedos, use a GPS to dial them in accordingly.

Your faria box is in the back of the boat behind the engine. Kind of hard to get to but it can be done. Yes the box is different from the guage. The guage is plugged into this box. The box is basically the main brain for the system.

skinautique is correct, sometimes the pins need to be pushed further into the Faria box so the barbs "catch" in the plug.

My boat is a new (05) SV211SE not a Team or Limited so it has a key and analog gauges so it's different, sorry I forgot to include these details. My Faria Speedometer is an analog readout of the digital signal generated by the paddle wheel, you adjust the readout with an electronic trip pot mounted under the dash (no Faria control box). I have no pitot tubes on my boat. If I did not have a perfect pass I would most likely complain about the gauge and ask to have it replaced by a good old airguide or other pitot tube driven pressure speedometer. But, since I use the perfect pass whenever I care about speed the speedometer is really there just for looks so I don't worry about it too much. Now most of the time I am driving and I use the information from the perfect pass so there's no issue, the problems arise when a new driver pulls me and they don't trust or understand the perfect pass. This has happened twice in the past week resulting in bad rides so I am a little sensitive about this issue and hence my comment about putting a red X on the face of the gauge. One ride was slalom getting pulled at 32 vs 34 the other was barefoot being pulled at 38 vs 42. I should adjust the speedometer but like I said earlier, I don't even pay attention to it so I forget. The remainder of the Faria gauges are very good, they are nice to look at, and I feel they work much better than the noisy servo driven medallion gauges used in Malibu's (even factored into the decision to buy my new Nautique).

I pulled the cover off of the faria box and low and behold both tubes were off the nipples on the box. I connected both and the gauge now reads although the screen menu on the gauge indicates that the starbord is blocked. I blew through both tubes before reattaching the tubes to the box so I'd be surprised if it actually was, but at least the port side must be working.

                      Thanks for the tip.

you can also put the boat into a hard reverse for a couple of seconds to clear the tube. the tube is only blocked if there is an "x" flashing on the guage. Otherwise, it will choose the port or the starboard side depend on which is providing a better reading.
