01 SAN check engine light on!

Had the boat on the lake today and the check engine light on the dash came on (not the v-drive light). My temp was 160 and oil pressure was 60 psi at idle. The engine also wouldnt go above 2500 RPM's it would cut in and out when it reached 2500 RPM's. Is this limp mode? I know that light is for the temp and oil pressure. How do i go about doing the checks to see if its the sensors and where are they? Thanks for eveyones help.

Which engine do you have? I will take a guess and it might be the gt-40 and there is only 2 sensors on the engine that can turn on the check engine light on the dash and they are the low oil pressure switch and the temp switch. The low oil pressure switch is down by the oil filter near the oil pressure sensor the switch is smaller one of the two and it should have a brown color wire with a red tracer if i remember right disconnect the switch and try the boat and see if the check engine light goes out when the boat is running, be careful when doing this as the belts are right there and disconnect the wire when the engine is not running. If this does not cure the problem then go to the top port rear of the engine near the distributor and look for a sensor with the same color wire as the oil pressure switch but it will also have a green wire hooked up to it disconnect it and rerun the boat. And yes it is going into limp mode if the check engine light is lit up when it is running.
