Humminbird Depth finder reads 1.7???

My depth finder constantly reads 1.7 feet. Every once in awhile if I press the set button it will read the correct depth until I move the boat. Any suggestions.

I hated my old depth finder, the new one from Faria where the sounder floats in oil works great. Knowing what I now know I would swap that Hummingbird for a new Faria in a heartbeat.

My Hummingbird seems to have gone awry also and pretty much reads 1.7 all the time, also. Seems like it started to give more and more false readings and now hardly seems to read accurately at all. Not sure what could be going on.

Short of buying a new depth finder, anyone have similar issues or have an idea what might be happening?

This is a common failure. There isn't anything you can do except replace the unit.

I have had 2 boats with the Hummingbird depthfinders and I had to replace them both... Best way to trow $100,- away. My dealer said it's normal that the only last for 2 saisons and he suggest other manufactures.

never right,,never works...I been on some sites to find a good
Faria gauge,,,But no luck...A few on E-bay.....I called the Company they said there price was a little high,,They said call West Marine..I did...
They have no Ideal what Faria gauges are!!!!!...Now what....
Anybody ever Buy any Faria gauges and where!!!!!

So which component of the Humminbird breaks after two seasons, the transducer epoxied to the hull or the display/processor component in the dash?

The fourth post in this thread references a "gain" or "sensitivity" adjustment on most depth finders. Has anyone pulled apart their Humminbird depth finder to see if there is such an adjustment?

Well,,,,,,,,,,I called CC in Fl. talked with john Givens..He called Faria company,,,Faria then called me....They called West Marine..
Then I called west Marine...West Marine called Faria...Then West Marine called me...so now West Marine can order me one..wewewewe..

Funny this comes up. My depth finder went out on my '02 Air last weekend. It reads a contast 1.2 feet.
