The finder in my 01 went sporadic a season or two ago and now it pretty much doesn't work at all. I just sent an inquiry to Humminbird right after xmas and haven't heard back from them yet. Next step is to call. My understanding is they have a newer model that will replace what we have, but it does require a newer cable to be compatible with the original transducer.

I'm hoping they'll be willing to deal, as I've heard others have gotten theirs replaced at no charge.

I had the same problem, for about $100 you can get a new one and just be done with it. Use the old cable to pull the new one through.

Going this route, did you have to remove the old transducer and glue/attach the new one, or did you just use the adapter cable?

I have yet to receive a reply from them to the inquiry I sent to Humminbird before xmas so I just called their customer support. Apparently other people that have called them received outstanding service and even new units in exchange for the piece of junk HDR600 models. The gal I spoke with apparently hadn't heard of any issues at all with the HDR600 and was less than helpful.

Frankly, I'm a little irritated. It's ironic the digital teleflex instruments everyone has so much trouble with still work fine on my boat, but the depth finder was junk. Yellow_Flash_Colorz:

What you need is the HDR 610 head unit and the adapter so you can connect your existing transducer & cable to the new unit in the dash. No need to glue a new transducer and snake the cable as that wasn't the problem. Supposedly it was a software problem which is fixed in the 610 unit. I replaced mine 2 seasons ago and its worked just fine ever since, I convinced the hummingbird folks to send me a new one - but I think I lucked out as the service rep I got was new and unusually helpful in that she honored the "1 year warranty" since I only had the boat for a few months, granted I bought it used

That's the information I was looking for! I was hoping Humminbird would stand behind their product and extend warranty since the 600 model obviously was very problematic, but it doesn't seem like that's going to happen.

Now, I just need to see if I can track down an HDR610 with adapter cable without having to pony up for the transducer.
