Bow cover installation

Well I finally broke down and bought a bow cover for my boat. Now the only question is should I try and install it or have somebody else do it.? Has anyone done this before? Any pointers?

Nobody has any advice? I just got the cover in yesterday. It has 10 billion male snaps with screws attached to them. Do you drill then screw in? Seems pretty easy, just time consuming.. plus it would suck if I didn't get it to line up right. I think I might try it myself and just take my time. The dealer wants 250 bucks to install it. BS!

The hardest part in the process is getting the holes drilled in exactly the right place. You want it nice and snug so it doesn't ripple when towing but not so tight that it pulls the snaps out of the cover over time. I would say go for it. 250 bills is pretty steep.

I'd find a matching boat and try your bow cover on that boat. If it fits as it should then measure and mark your bow for the placement of the male snaps. I'd drill a pilot hole, can't tell you how snug to drill it though.

If the holes are too small you will sheer off the screws and have a real big problem. The drill bit should be slightly larger than the solid portion of the screw. Don't forget to chanfer the holes to prevent spider cracks.

Hey actiondcpd, do you think you'll use a bow cover much? One came with my boat and I only use it a handful of times in the spring and fall. I'm in the process of putting in a windblock similar to what WhiteChocolate put in his (http://svtsupercharged.com/gallery/album02/aai), which I think will be way more useful. Having to run all the snaps was a real PITA.
