Hey, my neighbors boat evidently has a bent strut and some fiberglass damage underneath the strut. If we have the glass work down at the local shop, how difficult is it to correctly align the strut? If we follow the pre-drilled bolt holes, use the 3M 5200 through-hull adhesive, and get the engine mounts aligned after the install, is this acceptable . . . or should he just ball up and have the marina do it all? Thanks!

You can do it. Since the engine has not moved, make sure you bolt up the shaft coupling to the tranny BEFORE tightening down the strut. This will help ensure its initial positioning. Then, upbolt the coupling and align properly. -

Another thing to consider is the strut itself. These are cast and not always from the same mold. I've seen the same part numbers side by side and they weren't the same. When you get your replacement, make sure it's got the same shaft angle as the old one.
