I bought an 89 Ski Nautique 2001 last night. 351 with Holly carb. It would not idle at all so I set the idle up some. It lopes pretty bad and eventually dies when I set it anywhere below 900-1000rpms. Any help much appreciated.

It seems everyone is having carb problems these days. More then likely its the carb but since you just bought the boat I would first check out the ignition system and fuel supply system, including the condition of the fuel. If you can determine that both systems are OK then you'll need to rebuild the carb. Rebuild kits are available at [url]skidim.com[url] or a good automotive parts store. If you go to a auto part store they will need the carb number off of the front float bowel in order to look it up in Holly's Marine Carb Calalog. Do not forget to order a base/manifold gasket. Rebuilding is easy if you are somewhat mecahnically inclined. I do it every several years and it keeps the engine running great.
