My friend has a 94 Nautique with a Ford 351 engine (carbed). He is having trouble with the engine dying when applying throttle slowly from neutral. When he slams the throttle down, the boat will accelerate, but when it is done slowly, the engine just dies. The boat will idle fine, but is sometimes rough starting. Any suggestions?!

RE: Throttle trouble
Rebuild the carb. Over time Carbs can build up gunk which can plug up the small orifices, also gaskets, orings, and rubber parts deteriorate.
You can experiment a little by holding the choke butterfly partially closed to see if that improves the acceleration problem. If it does it's more then likely the carb.
