    Winterization

    Hey,
I am getting ready to head back to school, but I first need to winterize my boat. The only problem is that the boat is not starting. Is there any way to winterize the block without starting the engine? Can I use anti-freeze and flush the coolant hoses and then open everything else to dry out? Thanks!

    Sure.

After you drain everything (assuming you've got a 351 Ford - one plug on each exhaust manifold, one plug on each side of the block, one plug at bottom of U below engine water pump, water strainer, hose(s) between raw water pump and water strainer), find the hose that feeds water from the raw water pump to the thermostat housing, disconnect it at the raw water pump, and then pour a several gallons of antifreeze mix down the hose - it will go through the thermostat mechanism to fill the block and then the exhaust manifolds.

You might want to check and see if you have the trany cooler on your boat. Ours is on the port side near the rear of the engine. Its bolted on down low on the engine. Just follow the raw water hose from the hull to the pump. If you have the cooler it will be somewhere inline. There is a plug on it also.

Will he need to open up the raw water pump to empty out the water from it?

If he drains the hose that supplies water to the raw water pump I don't think he'll need to open up the raw water pump.

Good point about the transmission cooler.
