92 SNOB ??

Long time lurker... first time poster

I've got a 92 SNOB (see pic. below) and have a couple of spots in the floor that are getting soft under foot since I didn't do my home work and bought a boat one year before they went to all fiberglass :evil: Right now I'm the only one that has noticed the areas so there not real bad yet but I'm planning on ripping up the carpet this winter and checking out the damage.

My question... If I decide to rip out and redo the floor is there enough room between the stringers to go ahead and put an internal ballast system under the floor? I can't find a schematic of how the strings in the boat are positioned. If I could figure out if a ballast system could be done it would make the decision to redo the entire floor or just repair the soft spots a lot easier.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Nice boat. Nice monster tower. I got lucky with my 93 Sport with monster tower. I didn't know of the all fiberglass construction until after I bought back in 97. I don't have many answers other than you will notice that the boats with ballast are taller and the seats sit higher thus allowing a lot more room underneath. You will see many complaints about the seats sitting so high in the newer boats and that's why. I don't think there is much room under the floorboards in our older boats and ballast would be tough. I know this isn't a lot of help but wanted to compliment the boat anyway. Good luck.

The space between the floor and the bottom of the hull should be filled with floatation foam, IIRC. If it is, and you remove it then your boat could possibly sink if a disaster happended. Just a thought. Nice looking boat.

I guess I'll just have to look when I rip the carpet up and make the decision then. If I do end up ripping out the entire floor I'll make sure to post back with the results and the dimensions on the strings. That way if anyone else has the same crazy idea they'll know if it can be done.

where at is the floor soft? near the engine, behind the engine, or at teh drivers seat? because the floor is fiberglass laid over foam amd the stringers are wood and you should not have to replace wood in the floors unless you get into the stringers.

I have 3 spots...

The worst spot is between the clam shell seat and drivers seat right next to the built in cooler... basically where everyone driving has to step before getting into the drivers seat.

The other two are on either side of the engine cover... about where the "N" is on the side of the boat... again its where everyone steps into the boat at the dock or where the wet life jackets sit during a day of riding.

All 3 spots are about 12" X 3" which isn't real big, but I want to stop the problem before I put my foot through one of them :shock:
