    steering question

I have a 2000 SAN with around 1500lbs of weight usually with 4-5 people in the boat. Just changed to the acme 644 prop and noticed when making a left turn I feel a single "clunk" in the steering. The steering wheel feels a little loose but it didn't clunk before the prop change. Any thought on the clunk and is it easy to tighten the steering wheel.

    RE: steering question

Is the prop on tight enough?

it's to the factory spec of 35lb torque or just tight enough to get the cotter pin through.

Why did you change your prop in the first place? Check your steering system for any loose hardware, like where your steering cable hooks to the tiller arm, your steering cable block clamp to stringer bolt and make sure the cable is tightened all the way into the streeeing cable giude tube.

I bought the boat about a month ago and it came with a 14 X 18 oj prop and with the weight I was running the whole shot was terrible. I love the performance of the new prop I just hate the clunk noise. I'll check all the steering cable connections, thanks for the tip.
