    Volt Gauge

I have a 91 Sport and when running under normal conditions the Volt meter drops to approx 10 volts. Other symtons appear to be turning on the blower drops the volt meter. When the nav lights are on the volt meter drops to about 10 volts or less.

I did check the Altanator which is out putting the correct voltage and goes up when checked at the battery. At the volt gauge the voltage does drop so I now its not the gauge plus I did change out the gauge.

I would also like to know where I could find a complete wiring dia.

I have been struggling with this problem for some time and need some assistance.

    RE: Volt Gauge

    This is what I did!
Try them in order. My guage now reads perfect even with all the additional electrical demands I have added.

#1. Check and add an additional ground wire to volt guage.
#2. Run a new 10 + guage wire from the breaker located in engine to the ignition breaker
#3. Run new wire from the purple post of the ignition key switch to the volt meter
#4. I grounded out the volt meter for a second which corrected my reading

I've fixed a number of these problems by running an additional 10 guage ground wire to the dash.

        More questions

        EchoLodge,

Thanks for the info I was working on this problem today and I did replace about 25 connectors in the dash this seem to help. Now I want to try your fix but I have a few questions.

        1. what size ground wire did you run and from what point from the eng, batt...?

        2. What breaker did you run the wire from the 50 amp and if so what side of the breaker?

        3. What size wire did you use from the ingition switch to the volt meter and did you remove the old wire?

        4. When you say you grounded out the volt gauge you mean you just shorted it across the pos to neg?

This is very helpful information and I hope to get back to this problem soon.

        Again thanks,

        Lron

          RE: More questions

          1. what size ground wire did you run and from what point from the eng, batt...?

I have a 2 guage that runs from my battery to my stereo amps. I ran a 14 guage from that to the volt meter. You can just pull a 10 guage ground wire when you fish the new 10 guage positive wire. You can attach it to the ground to the engine by the 50 amp breaker on the engine.

          2. What breaker did you run the wire from the 50 amp and if so what side of the breaker?

I ran a 10 guage from the 50 amp breaker to the ignition breaker on the dash. I followed the original wire from the wire harnes on the engine. All the breakers on the dash get their power from the ignition breaker. You need to connect it to the off side of the breaker (if it was popped). This way the new positive run is breaker portected. Connect the other end to the input side of the igition breaker. If you follow the original wire harness you can't get it wrong.

          3. What size wire did you use from the ingition switch to the volt meter and did you remove the old wire?

I ran a 14 guage and left the original wires in place.

          4. When you say you grounded out the volt gauge you mean you just shorted it across the pos to neg?

Exactly! Using a volt meter I new I was getting 13.5 to the volt meter but it was still showing 12. After I shorted it the guage read correctly. My volt meter on my Perfect Pass also read correctly.

This is very helpful information and I hope to get back to this problem soon.

          Good Luck.

          Eric
