iv got a 1991 ski nautique and we have about 1100 lbs in it. i go about 21-22 mph and the wake is a little wide. should i go faster, and if so, how fast? or is there some way to distributre the wake to make a skinnier wake for wakeboarding?

I’m sure some one will correct me if I’m wrong, but I’m pretty sure wake width is determined by the width of your hull.
I would think your speed would be about right. We ride with about 2000 lbs in my boat and we run at about 22.5 mph. What length do you ride at?

yeah, if you speed up it will narrow the distance to cross w2w. also try to shorten the rope about 5 feet. Nautiques have narrow hulls compared to most other manufacturers, so distance should not be a problem. It might be that you still need to work on your progressive edge toward the wake.

When was the last time that the speedo's were calibrated? You may be running slow. Even Perfect Pass will come out of calibration. I check mine via GPS (don't forget to check the accuracy of your GPS unit first) every so often. The length of your rope greatly plays into the width of your wake as well. Your '91 should have a great wake! Are you comparing the width of your wake to another boat? The person who said \"Money can\'t buy happiness\" never rode behind an \"OLD\" 210.

My experience is that shortening the length of rope is the best way to progress in wake to wake stuff....start out with a shorter line and then progress to longer. I would be concerned about going too fast if you are still learning/progressing. Taking a couple of face plants at 22 mph will bring you to attention. Might shorten your day a bit also.
I have seen folks progress (with short rope...50 ft?) to clean wake to wake at about 18 or 19 mph. I don't think that the speed had as much impact as the rope length. I would stick with adjusting the rope length at first.88 Ski Nautique
